Kenneth Cope was born on 14 April 1931 to John and Mary Cope of 37 Eastdale Road, Wavertree. After attending Hey Green Road Primary School and Old Swan Technical College he went to work at the Automatic Telephone Company as an engineering apprentice. Having been involved in amateur theatricals he gained a grant from Liverpool Education Committee to study at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He has appeared in a host of TV roles, most notably as Marty Hopkirk in the series Randall and Hopkirk Deceased (1969-70), as Jed Stone in Coronation Street and Ray Hilton in Brookside. He has appeared in a number of films, including lead roles in two of the Carry On series.
